School tends to be an all-encompassing aspect of any child and adolescent’s life and how one performs at school has a significant impact upon their overall sense of accomplishment and worth. Here are some things that can be done to ensure that one performs to the best of one’s abilities.

Be regular, never let work pile up: Being regular with school work is very important. This gives you sufficient time for other activities. This also tremendously reduces the pressure of completing a lot of work at the last minute.

Identify your weakness: Many of us tend to focus on our strengths and keep working on them, becoming more proficient in those aspects. It is equally important to pay attention to our weaknesses and work on those as well.

Practise, practise, practise: The more you learn and solve complex problems, the more well-versed and proficient you would be at it. It would improve your understanding of the subject.

Take feedback from teachers: Taking feedback from your teachers can provide you with the right guidance for improvement.

Balance study and fun: Balance is the key to life. We can’t only focus on fun or only on studies. It is important that one learn to balance these two diverse aspects so that one can truly enjoy and also have a sense of achievement with what one is engaged in.

Don’t run after high scores: High scores are not the be-all and end-all of life. What matters most how hard you have tried. If you prepared well and focussed on giving the best performance that you could, then results would follow as well. Performance is what is important because that would help you achieve your target.

No comparisons please: Comparisons don’t help. They only make people feel more upset and unhappy that they could not perform better than the rest. Focusing on one’s performance is more important and doing so will make one put in his or her best effort.

Learn study skills: Take the help of your counsellor. Make use of his/her knowledge and understanding of the methods of studying and giving exams to enhance your performance. The more you are able to apply the right scientific methods of studying, the better your performance would be.

Be motivated: Motivate yourself. Remember, it is not just important to your parents or teachers that you obtain good results. Their constant pushing or utilisation of reward systems can work to a certain extent. However, it is crucial that you constantly motivate yourself to do well and study in a performance-oriented-manner. Your skills will then improve.
