The director-public instruction (DPI) here said membership of the two government libraries in the city - the central state library at sector 17 and state library at sector 34 - was being offered free to all government college teachers and students in the city.

There are over a dozen government institutions here with thousands of teachers and students on their rolls.

The DPI said the step was being taken to promote reading habits among teachers and students alike. No library security will be charged during the free membership drive from Sep 5 to Oct 4.

Teachers and students can enrol for either one of the two libraries or both. College principals will attest forms of teachers and students taking membership of the libraries.
