Students at Delhi University (DU) like to keep it short and simple. And no, we aren’t talking about their college life or even their hangout sessions, we’re talking about their style quotient.

As classes in Delhi University begin, juniors and seniors seem to be getting the ‘shorts’ fever. Blame it on the city’s humid monsoon or their fashion needs, shorts seem to have become everyone fashion fix – ripped, faded, hot pants, Cherokee, long or short.

To beat the heat, while most girls have paired these with cold-shoulder and off-shoulder tops, boys have transformed their jeans into hot shorts.

While some believe that shorts keeps them comfortable and sweat-free, during the long walks across the campus, there are others who prefer shorts over jeans, because they’re fun, stylish and can be paired with almost anything in their closet. To the extent that some have even used their old shorts to create an Indo-western look by sporting shorts with short kurti and bindi on forehead!

Kriti Sharma, B Com student, says kurti and shorts both are weather appropriate.

Kriti Sharma, a B Com (Hons) student, says: “I paired this kurti with shorts because they’re both weather appropriate. We all know how comfortable kurtis are, and shorts don’t stick to my legs like jeans do. We have classes that last about four hours, add to those two hours of travelling, and I also have to do a lot of walking in the campus – I need to wear clothes I can breathe in and be comfortable in.”

Piyush Ashok, a BA student, says shorts are casual yet stylish.

Piyush Ashok, BA student, says: “Most boys are conscious about baring their legs but not me. I think shorts are a fun way of dressing to beat the heat. They’re perfect for us college-goers as they’re casual yet stylish. And just like jeans, they can be paired with almost anything, whether it is a t-shirt or a nice, smart shirt.”

John Kashung says ripped shorts are a cooler version of ripped jeans.

John Kashung, a B Com student, says: “Everyone prefers shorts these days as it is so hot and we have so much travelling and walking to do. I got these ripped shorts as I thought it would be a nice stylish twist. Also, ripped jeans look so cool so I thought why not experiment this way! These are a cooler version of ripped jeans.”

Palak Motsara believes that shorts add a sporty, casual and tomboyish look to the attire.

Palak Motsara, an English Hons student, “I think shorts are the most summer friendly attire. They’re comfortable, airy and there is no worry of them flying around, like there is with a skirt. I also like how they add a sporty, casual and tomboyish look while still bordering on the edge of girly. I am wearing them with a floral top today to add an even more summary look to the whole outfit.”
