Young women who wish to join Delhi University’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) will get three days for admission to the BA and BCom programmes this year. The application process for the 2014-15 session of NCWEB continues from June 17 to June 30. The first cut-off list will be out on July 9. It is a good option for women keen to pursue a distance learning degree over the regular mode. “Candidates can get application forms from three centres at Kalindi College, PGDAV College and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College for Women. They can take admission at all 13 teaching centres of NCWEB. With this, students can take admission at a centre close to them. The session will begin from the first Sunday of August,” says Anju Gupta, officiating director, NCWEB.

The Board enables thousands of young women, who cannot join regular college for various reasons to attend classes over the weekend and take academic breaks to obtain undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from DU. However, NCWEB students are not allowed to pursue any other full-time/degree course. There are 50 teaching days in a year. At the undergraduate centres, classes are held from 9am to 3.30pm. There are about six to seven lectures in a day. Most of the teachers of the university and affiliated colleges are deputed as guest faculty to teach the students. Interestingly, the pass percentage of these students is as good as that of the regular students. “Lately, about 180 students scored 100% in one or the other subjects. With 50 classes a year in one subject, this is a great achievement. Most of our third-year students are working and/or are pursuing diploma courses to enhance their employability. Students can also pursue extracurricular activities such as cultural events, quizzes, sports events etc,” adds Gupta.
