From aerospace to AI, JEE Main toppers from Dehradun have big dreams

Students from Uttarakhand who cracked this year’s JEE Main speak about their aspirations and plans ahead.

From mastering aerospace engineering to becoming a pioneer in the field of artificial intelligence, students who cracked this year’s JEE Main have big dreams indeed. And they are determined to achieve them.

The JEE Main 2018 result was announced on April 30.

Martand Dubey, who topped Uttarakhand with 226 marks and an overall ranking of 3,027, sacrificed an entire academic year to realise his dream of studying in the best Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the country. Today, the IITs at Kanpur and Delhi figure in his shortlist of such institutes.

“I want to graduate in aerospace engineering, which is offered only by IIT-Kanpur and IIT-Delhi. I am tirelessly preparing for the JEE Advanced examinations, scheduled for May 20, in the hope of securing a seat in one of these institutes,” said Dubey.

The IIT aspirant, who completed Class 10 from Rishikesh and Class 12 from Delhi, appeared for the JEE Main examination from Dehradun. “Both my parents are government teachers. My father specialises in science, and I still remember how he used to teach me about various space-related technologies. That was when I began dreaming of becoming an aerospace engineer,” he said.

Then there were high-scoring aspirants from other states who came to Dehradun to realise their JEE dream. Akshat Vijay, who hails from Ajmer in Rajasthan, took a crash course in the state capital before returning to his hometown. However, even during his three-month stay at Ajmer, Vijay continued to seek guidance from his teachers in Dehradun.

“DK Mishra, director of Aviral Coaching Classes in Dehradun, virtually handholds his students to success. Even after I completed my course, he continued to guide me, assess me and help me in every way possible,” said Vijay, who secured 256 marks in the Main examination.

The IIT aspirant wants to try his hand at artificial intelligence because he considers it as a field that would help open the doors to many global companies. While Vijay’s father runs a small shop in Ajmer, his mother is a homemaker.

“I congratulate all the students who passed the JEE Main. I also want them to emerge triumphant in the JEE Advanced examination later this month,” said Mishra.
