‘FYUP review is what we want’

ABVP believes that student activists can bring about big changes.

They have been strong crusaders of the anti-FYUP (four-year undergraduate programme) campaign and their demands for reviewing the new undergraduate degree structure helped them post a resounding win in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections held recently.

The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is supporting a review and is also backing the DU Teachers’ Association stir against the FYUP. “The anti-FYUP campaign was high on our agenda as we feel it is not a good move to implement a new academic structure without the students’ union being taken into consideration,” says Aman Awana, the newly-elected DUSU president.

Awana and his team believe that as students and activists, they can play a major role in bringing about changes for the benefit of students. The group’s ideology is based on working for the students and raising issues that concern them. They actively campaigned for the student community, reaching out to students directly and through the social media.

They’ve also demanded for more hostels and colleges at the university. “No new college has been set up since the last 14 years. One option is to convert evening colleges into morning colleges. This way, all available resources can be utilised,” says Awana.
