A stand-up comedian performs in front of a live audience, usually speaking directly to them. He/she recites fast paced humorous stories, short jokes and one-liners called a monologue, routine or act.
Stand-up comedians must develop their own acts, and hone their skills on the job. Acknowledged industry experience, combined with a proven track record of success, is often the most valued qualification. The job of a stand-up artist entails minimal investment, and yields high returns. All you need is a sense of humour and the ability to write good scripts.
