Google Summer of Code is a programme that offers student developers stipends to write code for various open source projects. The programme has brought together over 7,500 students with over 440 open source projects, to create over 50 millions of lines of code.
The programme, which kicked off in 2005, is now in its tenth year. Through Google Summer of Code, accepted student applicants are paired with a mentor or mentors from the participating projects, thus gaining exposure to real-world software development scenarios and the opportunity for employment in areas related to their academic pursuits. The student proposal period begins on March 10, 2014, and ends on March 21, 2014.
