The Opposition raised the issue in the Upper House demanding that the matter be settled at the earliest to end the agony of thousands of students. The government assured that matter would be resolved soon but did not fix a deadline.

Minister of state for parliamentary affairs Prakash Javadekar said, "The government is going to act soon keeping in mind the issue of different regional languages and the sentiments of the students. As soon as decision is taken, the government will inform (the House)."

JD(U) MP Sharad Yadav said that while the minister for DoPT had said last week that a resolution would come within a week, the government was now saying it would take another week.

"By when will the government resolve it? The seven days' time given by you concludes tomorrow," he said.
