Gone are the days when students shivered with fear at the sight of their professors. The stereotypical image of a lecturer — a bespectacled dictator with a stern expression on the face — is probably as anachronistic in today’s time as snail mail. Kids these days greet their professors with a ‘Hi!’, and buzz them on WhatsApp. Here are a few students talking about their coolest gurus.

Prof Kajali Raina
St. Andrew’s College
She is a living example of the famous saying, ‘Success lies in what you give and not in what you get.’ During my first year in college, I once whistled during her lecture. She called me after class. I expected a tight slap but she only asked if I had realised my mistake and told me never to do it again. This forgiving attitude mesmerised me. With over 2,000 students on her Facebook friend list, she rocks, always.

Prof Sudhakar Solomon Raj
Wilson College
Popularly known as SSR, memories of his classes will last a lifetime. Only he can use Eminem’s tracks to make you understand the facts of nature. There won’t be anybody cooler than him, ever. He is an inspiration during college days and even after graduation.

Prof Shefali Shah
St. Xavier’s College
Though Prof Shefali Shah, the head of the English Literature department, took just a single lecture with us, she made sure that it was awesome. She recited a poem, read out a short story and then went on to have a discussion on our favourite books. When I asked her why Lolita wasn’t a part of our syllabus, she replied, “Wait till you have a teenage daughter.”

Prof Sudha Ravishankar
KC College
She lights up our day with her loving ways. During the recent train motormen’s strike, she took a cab all the way from Charni Road to Khar and asked some of us who lived nearby to jump in. We had the time of our lives as we spoke about the Dark Knight Rises and just chilled out with her.
