Student verdict

What do you like about the place?
The best part is that the food is fresh and delicious. “We have lots of variety including ice creams and shakes. Apart from South Indian, North Indian and Chinese food, we have pasta,” says Shelly Mehta, a BCom (hons) student

Do you get your lunch from home? If yes, what?
“We bring chapatis, sabzi, paranthas, sandwiches, butter toast, etc from home because classes sometimes run till late evening. We don’t always have the time to sit and have food in the cafeteria. Also, it’s not always healthy to eat out,” says Mehta

If you’re eating in the canteen, what do you expect to be served?
“I think the cafeteria is self-sufficient. We do not see the need for anything else,” says Mehta

Are you happy with the canteen food?
The food served here is visually-appealing and hygienic. “Apart from being nutritious, it’s very delicious. It’s filling, fresh and also good value for money,” says Mehta

The best thing you like about the college cafeteria?
Pasta and spring rolls are our favourites, says Mehta. “The huge area in front of the cafeteria, that is the LP, is one of the biggest attractions. We also have a separate seating area for the staff,” adds Mehta

The ambience is usually very lively as students sit free from lectures completing their assignments or simply chatting

Straight from the students’ union

Is there any person in charge of the cafeteria? Does the institute monitor what is being served?
“The college administration and the students’ union members take care of the cafeteria. The problems encountered are responded to immediately,” says Ashok Yadav, president, Students’ Union, Hans Raj College

Are the students offered food of high nutritional value?
“Two to three members from the union are given the responsibility to keep a check on what’s going on. The union members are open to all kind of suggestions and any sort of complaint is very-well addressed,” says Yadav

Any changes likely in the current menu list?
“We are not planning to bring any change in the menu. Changing the menu would rather create problems. Adding dishes won’t ensure that they would be always served hot,” says Yadav

Any plans to upgrade the food quality?
“It is the responsibility of the union to improve the quality of food especially when there are complaints. Though home food is not comparable, we try to serve students the healthiest option possible,” says Yadav

Saaf safai
There are four to five attendants to clean the place. About 10 dustbins are kept near the cafeteria. The cooks wear aprons while preparing dishes. The juice stall is kept very clean
