Profile St Andrew’s college of arts, science and commerce Shriya Ghate Reports

St Andrew’s College, Mumbai, was inaugurated on July 9, 1983, by Archbishop Simon Pimenta. The college began with just 194 students, but has now grown to accommodate close to 4,000 of them.

The motto of the college is ‘Enlighten the Darkness’. The red diagonal cross on its crest is symbolic of St Andrew as he tried to share the teachings of the gospel with others.

St Andrew’s College has been accredited with B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Programmes: St Andrew’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce has both a junior college as well as a degree college. The graduation degrees that the college offers are BA, BCom, BCom (accounting and finance), BSc (information technology), and BSc (hospitality). Apart from these, the college also offers BMM (Bachelor of Mass Media) and BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies).

The college has a tie-up with University College of the Fraser Valley, Canada, and has an exchange programme for staff and students, apart from joint research
programmes.

Extra-curricular: The college has associations and clubs such as the English Literary Association, Music Association, Dance and Dramatrix Club, Andrean Economic Association, History Association, the Commerce Circle, and the IT Club. The college also has an NCC cell as well as the Andrean Nature Club. It has an Association for Inter- Religious Dialogue.

The college is ranked among the top 10 in sports activities, with students participating in local, district, state and national level events in hockey, football, lawn tennis, swimming etc.

The college has three fests every year namely, Revolution, the IT fest; Reve the BMS fest; and Comfest, the BMM fest.
