Rohit S is not your typical youngster. The 22-year-old from Bangalore has been involved in the launch of two start-ups - Alchemy India, which trains youngsters to land jobs and CoEvolve, which works with business leaders, social entrepreneurs and others, where he is a ‘vital gardener’ in-charge of business development, strategy etc.
A Tony Blair Faith Acts Fellow, Rohit is now based at an NGO in Delhi working to raise awareness about malaria, maternal and child health in a Mewat village. According to Rohit, this is how he learns the best — by doing. “I’ve learnt a lot by being around amazing people,” he adds.
He is not a votary of lectures in the confines of a classroom.
“I am not going for any formal degree,” he says. “I took a degree as a necessity and (co-founded) Alchemy during my college days,” he explains. “It’s a waste sitting in class and just learning theory.”
He is not totally against the education system. “The education world advises you to be safe. It tells you not to fail. But the real world is about taking risks, especially in entrepreneurship. The whole education system is geared towards teaching people and making them go and get jobs.”
