KGMU Ragging: Juniors pulled out of rooms at night, made to sing says initial probe

Over a dozen KGMU students were suspended after the ragging complaints and debarred from entering the campus, with the proctor’s office taking over their rooms. Those suspended include 11 students from the 2016 batch and three from the 2015 batch

Initial findings by the KGMU administration have revealed that the medical students who complained of ragging by their seniors were brought out of their hostel rooms at night, made to sing songs and abused for not obeying orders of senior students.

Over a dozen KGMU students were suspended after the ragging complaints and debarred from entering the campus, with the proctor’s office taking over their rooms. Those suspended include 11 students from the 2016 batch and three from the 2015 batch. As per the complaint filed last week, they were involved in ragging 8 students of the 2017 batch. To note, ragging is a crime as per the rules.

“No student can be forced to leave the hostel at night against his wish,” said KGMU proctor Prof RAS Kushwaha. A committee had been formed to investigate the matter and if found guilty, the senior students would face severe disciplinary action, he said.

The victims said that the seniors wanted to give their juniors a party but before that they said they would tell the juniors how to behave with them.
