Legal and mass media studies now academic subjects in DU

Breather for DU aspirants who pursued the vocational subjects in Class 12

Delhi University from this year has decided to consider legal studies and mass media studies as academic subjects for admission to BA (honours) Political Science and BA (honours) Journalism respectively.

This means that applicants, who have studied these vocational subjects in Class 12, will be able to include them while calculating the best of four for admission to the varsity's undergraduate courses.

"Legal Studies will be considered as an academic subject for admissions only for Political Science (honours). Similarly, Mass Media Studies will only be considered as an academic subject for admission to BA (honours) Journalism English/Hindi," said JM Khurana, Dean Students' Welfare.

The university has also decided to treat Business Mathematics as equivalent to Mathematics for admission to BCom (Honours) and BCom. explaining the reasons behind the changes in the admission guidelines, a DU official said that there were many representations from schools to consider these subjects (legal studies and mass media studies) as academic subjects and the change will benefit a lot of students.

The university will also be treating commerce, accountancy and business studies at par with academic/elective subjects for admission to undergraduate courses. Colleges affiliated to DU are scheduled to announce their first cut-off list on Thursday, with admissions to the university's 54,000 seats in various colleges beginning on the same day.
