Lucknow boy Aadarsh Mishra, 19 has become the youngest Indian to be elected as the Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS), London.
“The minimum age criterion for being elected as a fellow is 18. It feels really good to be one of the youngest and few fellows from India. Now, I will be having access to more research projects apart from showcasing my work before other scientists,” said an overjoyed Aadarsh while speaking to HT from London.
It was always Aadarsh’s dream to be a fellow of this prestigious organisation. He was nominated for the fellowship after the society took into consideration his work in science.
An alumnus of St Francis’ College, Aadarsh was passionate about science since his school days. He had applied for a research project fellowship at the University of Oxford and was selected for it at the age of 18.
At the varsity, he did some work on thermoelectricity where his work was to analyse the ‘Temperature profile across a graphene electrode on silicon substrates’. After finishing his research he secured an industrial placement where he is currently working as an R&D engineer.

“My present work involves working on the project which deals with the ‘Application of electrostatic precipitation to remove smoke during surgical operations’. A patent will be filed on the same very soon. The project deals with eliminating the surgical smoke in a very efficient and cost-effective way. Surgical smoke hinders the visibility during operation and it is hard for surgeons to operate during the same,” he said.
