At a recently held open house at Keshav Mahavidyala, more than 500 anxious students and parents came to seek answers to their queries. Here are some of the most bothersome questions regarding admissions, answered by Suchitra Gupta, Deputy Dean, Students' Welfare, DU, and student counsellors:
During admission under the Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) quota, is some importance given to the score as well?
Yes, some importance is given to the marks as different colleges have different criteria for admission through this quota.
What is the difference between an honours and a non-honours programme?
The 'honours' programme is more intense than the non-honours programme and is subject intensive. In a non-honours programme, you have two languages along with two other subjects. Various combinations of subjects are available in different colleges.
Can one pursue chartered accountancy (CA) and a programme from DU simultaneously?
No, from this year, the Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI) has banned the practice because CA is an intensive programme. DU has nothing to do with this decision.
What is the admission procedure for the Bachelors programme in mass media and mass communications offered by IP College for Women?
There are three main tests -- an objective test followed by a creative writing test. Those who qualify both have to appear for a personal interview.

Students, Follow these tips:
Fill the form in a black or blue ink pen.
If you are from cultural quota, apply without bothering about the certificates. You only need to crack one trial. Whether you are good at classical music and dance, you can simply go for trials.
If you stay far from the campus, you don't need to come personally to fill the form.You can send anyone to do it for you.
Focus more on the programme and career it leads to than the college.
Job-oriented and application-oriented programmes are available aplenty in DU. Give these a serious thought rather than the conventional academic programmes provided they suit your interests. Some of the programmes are Bachelor in Mass Media and Mass Communication (BMMC), Bachelor of Business Economics (BBE), Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) and Bachelor of Journalism (English) or (Hindi).
Just because you have scored above 95 in maths shouldn't be the reason for you taking up Maths (Hons). Mull over your aptitude for the same before you take a plunge.
And now, when you are busy filling up the forms, don't shy away from encircling several options as you can take the decision of admission later when the first list is out.
In case of St Stephen's, Hansraj and KMC, you can fill up forms online also.
Separate forms have to be filled up for hostel stays. Don't rely solely on good scores. Your case won't be considered unless you have filled up a separate form for the hostel.
Those who want to secure a seat under ECA (extra-curricular activities)/sports quota ought to fill a separate form for individual colleges you apply to.
If you apply in five colleges, fill five separate ECA forms for those colleges and keep a tab on the dates of trials.
