Lancaster University chancellor visits GDGWI
Lancaster University’s chancellor, the renowned mountaineer Sir Christian Bonington CBE, visited GD Goenka World Institute of Higher Education for the first time on June 3.
His visit marked the expansion of the partnership between Lancaster University and GD Goenka World Institute of Higher Education (GDGWI) to include three engineering degrees.
The first students to graduate with a Lancaster University degree were also present at the public lecture and graduation dinner.
Lancaster is the first and only university to deliver higher educational qualifications at the GD Education City in India, a 60-acre site located near Delhi.
The Education City is part of GDGWI, which has been established to cater to the rising demand for quality higher education in India, to provide avenues for higher education to its students in an environment that is conducive to learning and teaching, and to produce the business leaders of the future. Lancaster is committed to bringing high quality higher education to India with its international partnership with Goenka.
During the tour of the site Sir Chris met GDGWI director Dr Vijay Gupta, other senior staff and current masters students studying for a Lancaster University Management School degree. Later, Sir Chris delivered a public lecture in Delhi to key industry figures, Lancaster graduates in India, and the first-ever cohort of students who graduated in January this year from Goenka with a Lancaster University degree.
The partnership, established in 2009, brings together Goenka's experience of education in India with Lancaster's world class academic reputation.
Diploma courses in fashion
The JD Institute of Fashion Technology has announced admission to their diploma courses in garment manufacturing technology, fashion illustration, creative fabric designing, jewellery designing, fashion photography/ visual arts,
textile designing and visual merchandising. These programmes emphasise on practical industry-oriented training.
The basics of all subjects are imparted as compulsory training to enable a student to be at ease in all the departments of the industry; whereas the specification is offered in the area of interest.
