Nursery admissions: Schools give max weightage to distance criterion

At Delhi Public School, Dwarka, the maximum points for the neighbourhood category is 40. The school will consider applications from students living within a 15-km radius.

A few renowned schools in the city released their nursery admission criteria, with most of them giving maximum weightage to proximity of the candidate’s residence to the school.

DPS RK Puram, on the other hand, specified distance-wise points. For instance 0-1 km is allotted 40 points, which further reduces to 35 for 1.1-3 km, 30 for 3.1-6 km, 25 for 6.1 to 8 km and 20 for 8.1-15 km.

After distance, both schools allotted the second highest weightage of 30 points for the sibling criterion, followed by 20 points for alumni (10 each for father and mother).

Both schools also allotted five points each for girl child/ first born and five points for single parent. The schools also released the category-wise split up of seats.

Meanwhile, the Vasant Valley School allotted a maximum of 20 points for neighbourhood. It will consider applicants from within a 12-km radius.

There are 20 points each allotted for alumni and sibling, and 10 points for first born child.

Minority schools set aside community-wise seats. For instance, at St George’s, Alaknanda, only 24 seats out of 200 are for general category. There are also seats for students with special needs. Management quota has 40 and 60 for Christians.

These categories will further be subjected to criteria-wise points such as 50 for siblings of enrolled children, 10 each for alumni and children of staff.

The school will consider the applications from students living within an 8-km radius.

Prabhu Dayal Public School, Shalimar Bagh, allotted 30-60 points for distance.
