Sky-rocketing cut-offs at Delhi University are not the only things students, especially those from other towns and cities, have to worry about. Finding a ‘home away from home’ is a tougher task for them. A hostel room in a college brings to mind a tiny pigeon hole with barely any space to move around, low on hygiene and unhealthy food. Surprisingly, at least 15 DU hostels that we visited claimed that they took extra care of the food that was served to students and living and security conditions. In fact, their unique selling proposition was the home-like environment with facilities such as Wi-Fi, gymnasium, game rooms, common rooms, swimming pools, food mess/canteens etc.
Delhi University currently has 15 college hostels located across north, south and off campuses. Outstation students seeking admission to Delhi University colleges this year will be offered hostel accommodation on merit basis.
