Rohit Yadav, 23, who cleared the UPSC exam, is the son of former ACP, Delhi Police, Rajbir Singh. Known as the encounter specialist, Singh was shot dead in Gurgaon in 2008.
Mamchand Yadav, 80, a retired senior commandant from the CRPF, Rohit’s grandfather, said, “I received a call from Rohit at 2pm and he informed me about his selection. He had been studying hard for the last two years, 14-15 hours a day. This was his second attempt and he managed to clear with a rank of 582.”
Yadav, born in Delhi, finished schooling from DPS R K Puram and completed his Bachelors in Technology (Mechanical) from Delhi Technical University in 2013. He stays with his mother in Lajpat Nagar and often visits Gurgaon as his family owns a house in A Block, Sushant Lok, while his grandparents live in Shivaji Nagar, Gurgaon.
Rohit was 15 years old when he lost his father.
Rakesh Rao, an uncle of Rohit, said, “We knew he will do big in life. Though he had cleared the written exam last time, he could not make it to merit.”
