Ankita only scored 60 per cent aggregate in her boards but hopes to pursue English Honours in Lady Shri Ram College. “I have participated in national level dramatics.
Hopefully, that should get me a seat,” she says, while filling up an ECA form. With the cut-offs soaring high, ECA and sports quota are fast becoming the only lifelines that the average student can hang on to to get into good colleges.
Barring a few like St Stephens and SRCC, most colleges admit students through the ECA quota. Though the usual activities include music, dramatics, dance, fine arts, debating, creative writing among other things, colleges like Venkateswara and LSR also recognise activities like scientific modeling and social service.
Many of the colleges have active societies so the selection process is usually tough. Kirori Mal College prefers rigorous trials to certificates. “The grilling auditions help maintain standard of the college,” says music society advisor Dr Sumitra Mohanty.
