The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) declared the result of the Madhyamik (Secondary or Class 10) examination on Wednesday. This year, the pass percentage went down to 85.49% from 85.75% last year.
Sanjivani Debnath of Suniti Academy in the north Bengal district of Cooch Behar stood first scoring 689 out of 700 (or 98.4%).
Out of the 23 districts, students of East Midnapore recorded the maximum pass percentage with 96.13% followed by West Midnapore at 91.75% and Kolkata at 91.11%.
Among the differently abled candidates, the pass percentage stood at 88.82%.

{{/usCountry}}The total number of examinees this time was 11,02,921 as against 10,71,846 in 2017. The number of girls appearing for Madhyamik 2018 was higher than the number of boys for the second consecutive year. The total number of girls who took the exam this year was 6,21,366, which is 56% of the total examinees. On the other hand, the number boys who appeared for the Madhyamik 2018 was 4,81,555 or 44%.
For the first time, this year the examination was conducted in Santhali (Ol Chiki) script. A total of 832 students attempted the exam in Ol Chiki script.
The overall pass percentage in Madhyamik 2017 was 82.98%. The pass percentage of boys was 86.34% and girls was 79.62%.
