Nazira comes under the Sibsagar district and it is one of the 126 Assam Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Nazira voted for Assam Assembly Election 2021 on March 27 and the result was declared on May 2.
In Assam Assembly Election 2016, there were 1,18,794 registered voters for Nazira assembly seat, out of which 61,599 were male and 57,195 were female voters. 1.2% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In 2016, 4 candidates were contesting for Nazira assembly constituency seat. Nazira was one of 26 seats won by the Bharatiya Janta Party. Indian National Congress's Debabrata Saikia won the election by defeating Bharatiya Janta Party's Prohlad Gowala by a margin of 14,855 votes.
93.8% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Indian National Congress's Debabrata Saikia got a total of 52,869 votes, while Bharatiya Janta Party's Prohlad Gowala got 38,014 votes. Communist Party Of India's candidate Kanak Gogoi grabbed 4,507 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 54.6%, 39.2% and 4.7% respectively.
In Assam Assembly election 2011, Indian National Congress's Debabrata Saikia beat Communist Party Of India's Drupad Borgohain by 33,810 votes.
