assam assembly election 2021 constituency list

Assam Assembly Election 2021 will be held for 126 constituencies in three phases from March 27 to April 6 where the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress-AIUDF alliance are locked in an electoral contest. Votes will be counted on May 2. The BJP is seeking to retain power in Assam and is banking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance and central schemes as well as on the image of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The Congress is heading into the battle against the ruling party and has promised it will not bring the Citizenship (Amendment) Act or CAA and brought the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to the fore among other poll promises. It has formed a grand alliance of seven parties, including Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), to take on the BJP. The last assembly elections in 2016 saw the BJP scripting history. The party formed the government for the first time in the state ending Congress's 15-year rule. The BJP and its allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) won 86 seats. In the 126-member Assam assembly, the BJP won 60 seats, AGP 14, and BPF 12 seats. Congress, which ruled the northeastern state for three straight terms under Tarun Gogoi, could manage to win only 26 seats that year. In the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP won nine of the 14 parliamentary seats and its allies the AGP and the BPF drew a blank. The Congress party managed three seats, and the AIUDF and an Independent won one seat each.
