Punjab Election: Batala Assembly Constituency 2022

Batala comes under the Gurdaspur district and it is one of the 117 Punjab Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Batala voted for Punjab Assembly Election 2022 on February 20 and the result was declared on March 10.

In Punjab Assembly Election 2017, there were 1,76,724 registered voters for Batala assembly seat, out of which 94,458 were male and 82,266 were female voters. 0.4% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.

What happened last time

In the Punjab Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Batala constituency had 13 candidates for assembly seat contention. Batala was one of 15 seats won by the Shiromani Akali Dal. It was an extremely close fight, with Shiromani Akali Dal's Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Ashwani Sekhri by a narrow margin of 485 votes.

96.9% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Shiromani Akali Dal's Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal grabbed a total of 42,517 votes, while Indian National Congress's Ashwani Sekhri got 42,032 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi bagged 34,302 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 34.7%, 34.3% and 28.0% respectively.

In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Ashwani Sekhri defeated Shiromani Akali Dal's Lakhbir Singh Lodhi Nangal by 18,885 votes.
