Beleghata was one of 211 seats won by the Communist Party Of India (Marxist). All India Trinamool Congress's Paresh Paul won the election by upstaging Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s Rajib Biswas by a margin of 26,179 votes.

The top two candidates split 91.1% of votes between them. All India Trinamool Congress's Paresh Paul got a total of 84,843 votes, while Communist Party Of India (Marxist)'s Rajib Biswas secured 58,664 votes. Bharatiya Janta Party's candidate Partha Chaudhury secured 11,516 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties got 53.9%, 37.3% and 7.3% respectively.

In West Bengal Assembly election 2011, All India Trinamool Congress's Paresh Paul outperformed Communist Party Of India (MARXIST)'s Anadi Kumar Sahu by 31,688 votes.
