Imran Khan is super excited not just by the encouraging response to his rom-com, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu that opens on February 10, but also because his customised Ferrari should reach him by this weekend.
Even though Shakun Batra’s directorial debut that co-stars Kareena Kapoor, is being pitched as a Valentine release, the red car with the black roof is not a Valentine gift.
“It’s my gift to myself,” smiles the actor, “for a financially successful 2011. Both Delhi Belly and Mere Brother Ke Dulhan did extremely well at the box-office and fetched me not-anticipated bonuses. Also, I signed a big endorsement deal for an expected figure and suddenly found myself in a far better financial position at the end of the year.”
Flush with funds, Imran found that at 28 he could suddenly afford the dream car he had fallen in love with when he was 11 and had been gifted a toy Ferrari. “I have never been a bike guy like so many of my colleagues. For me it’s always been cars and the Ferrari was like the Holy Grail. It’s the end of the line because you can’t get anything better. Right now it’s on its way from Delhi and I can’t wait to drive it around,” he exults.

Doesn’t she deserve a gift too? “She’s already gifted herself a lot of jewellery. I’m clueless about her shopping sprees till I start getting credit card updates on SMS,” he chuckles.

He had planned to whisk her off on a second honeymoon on their first anniversary but Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu promotions put paid to any plans of even a short trip. He managed to take the day off but ended up having a quiet lunch with the family and in the evening attending the wedding of Avantika’s best friend.
“We went on our honeymoon after six months. The first anniversary trip is due and will definitely happen before the year is over,” he promises, pointing out that the destination will depend upon what time of the year he manages to get away.
