In Pics: All we know about Disney+’s new Obi-Wan Kenobi series

That’s right, padawans. The Jedi trainer is getting his own six-episode show. Will it answer 45-year-old questions about the character? Let’s piece the clues together.

You know Obi Wan Kenobi. In the Star Wars universe, he trained Anakin Skywalker (who would later become Darth Vader), and served as a general in the Republic Army during the Clone Wars.

As grew older, he also guided Luke Skywalker (Anakin’s son) as a mentor. Fans love the younger Obi Wan. Actor Ewan McGregor infused wit and liveliness into his character in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. It was a marked difference from the distanced and jaded Obi-Wan in the original trilogy.

It’s no surprise that the beloved fighter and trainer is getting his own mini-series. Episodes drop weekly from May 27 and run through April 29. The show is set before events of series like Andor and Rebels.

Love him or hate him, Hayden Christensen is back as Anakin Skywalker. Promos even suggest that we may see master and student fight again before Obi-Wan sacrifices himself on the first Death Star. There are several familiar faces from shows like Star Wars Rebels and the game Star Wars: Fallen Order.

Rupert Friend (above) features in all six episodes of the miniseries as the Grand Inquisitor. Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse reprise their roles as Owen and Beru Lars respectively. Moses Ingram is the new Inquisitor Reva. Sung Kang plays the Fifth brother. Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie and Maya Erskine have signed on as well.

Prepare for an older, more battle hardened Obi Wan in this series. And a new planet too. We don’t know much about Daiyu, or why our hero has left Tatooine to spend some time there.
