Green Day opened their Coachella set by performing ‘American Idiots,’ videos circulating on social media show. The protest song is an explicitly political track that was nominated for four 2005 Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, Best Rock Song, and Best Music Video. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool took the stage, opening with the popular track and inspiring a sing-along of their own.
Green Day’s headlining performance can be streamed on Coachella’s YouTube channel. Coachella is hosting a livestream both weekends on YouTube for the 2025 festival. Various performers on each stage can be watched across six channels.

Green Day tweaks lyrics to slam Donald Trump, address global issues

Armstrong took a jab at US President Donald Trump by changing the lyrics to “I'm not a part of the MAGA agenda.” The band is no stranger to tweaking their lyrics. Earlier, in a performance in South Africa, Armstrong had sung, “I'm not a part of the Elon agenda," slamming Tesla boss Elon Musk’s political involvements.
At Coachella, Armstrong changed the lyrics while singing Jesus of Suburbia too. Addressing today’s global issues, he sang, “Running away from pain like the kids in Palestine."
The band sang hits from their albums Dookie and American Idiot, along with new songs like The American Dream Is Killing Me and Bobby Sox during their setlist. They also paid tribute to the anniversaries of their famous records that have helped shape their reign since as early as the '90s.
