Venkat Prabhu breaks silence on rift with Sivakarthikeyan over shelved film, says father ‘doesn’t know complete picture’

Venkat Prabhu was set to direct Sivakarthikeyan in a sci-fi film but it was ultimately dropped. The director has now commented on their equation.

Director Venkat Prabhu's father, Gangai Amaran, recently criticised an unnamed star actor for wasting his son's dates and causing his upcoming film project to be delayed. Many on social media speculated that the actor was none other than Sivakarthikeyan, as he was supposed to work with Venkat Prabhu in his next.

Venkat Prabhu says he would love to work with Sivakarthikeyan in the future.

On Monday, Venkat Prabhu posted an official clarification on the matter on his X, confirming that his project with Sivakarthikeyan has been dropped. However, there are no hard feelings. He said, “SK is always a dear friend/brother to me. A lot of speculations and controversies are going around. As a father, when a film involving your own son gets delayed, the frustration is natural. He probably doesn’t know the complete picture, and I can’t blame him for that.”

Venkat Prabhu has directed GOAT with Vijay, Maanaadu with STR and Biriyani with Karthi. He is currently working on casting and finalising his next directorial venture, although no official update has been announced so far.

Sivakarthikeyan's next

Venkat Prabhu's clarification arrived a few days after Sivakarthikeyan's next, tentatively titled SK27, was announced. Sivakarthikeyan plays the lead role alongside actor Kayadu Lohar in the film, which will be helmed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan, who won a National Award for his debut film Parking. Sai Abhyankkar will compose the music of the film.

Fans will see Sivakarthikeyan next in Seyon. The first glimpse of Sivakumar Murugesan’s film was unveiled earlier this year, in which the actor was seen carrying a staff in one hand and a torch in the other. The song playing in the background introduces him as the ‘fierce Virumaandi’. The people who have beaten them up come to the police station willingly, led by him. A woman washes his feet while a policeman folds his hands in reverence to the ‘God’ he possesses. An old woman even proclaims, “The OG is back!” It is set for release in October.
