Pakistan cricket icon Wasim Akram has dismissed rumours that he is marrying Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen, saying that he wants privacy and respect from both the media and his fans following Indian media's recent claim that Akram and Sen were about to tie the knot in Mumbai.
The famed paceman has been linked constantly by the media to the 1994 Miss Universe since they both appeared as judges in 2008 Indian dance show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, the Daily Times reports.
However, Akram, a widower since his wife Huma's death in October 2009, said that he was fed up of denying the rumours, adding that he and Sen were just good friends.
Akram further praised Sen as one of the most graceful and decent ladies that he had come across, adding that he enjoyed working along with the Bollywood actress in the show as she is a thorough professional and presents herself gracefully.
Akram, who has taken a year's leave from his role as a bowling coach in the Indian Premier League to spend time with sons, said that his and Sen's personal lives should be respected by the media and their fans.
Pakistan television channels had also splashed the story, hotly anticipating another high-profile cross-border union after the 2010 nuptials of Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik and Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza, the report added.
