Vir Das’s Pali Hill residence is vibrant and colourful. The stand-up comedian, actor and now also a fashion designer (he debuted a line of T-shirts and boxers at the Lakmé Fashion Week this August), keeps entertaining us with his one-liners and witty jokes. Here, Das talks about his collection of hats, love for shopping in London and more.

Fashion Sensibilities: “I am a rebel when it comes to style. I like going against the norm and finding a unique path that only makes complete sense to me. I have never been fashion conscious. My stylists are always upset with me because they feel I dress like a homeless person. But honestly, I’d rather be fashion unconscious and different.”

At home, we’ll catch you wearing: “You will see me in a pair of shorts or a pajama paired with a T-shirt. Sometimes I’m simply shirtless (laughs). I finish my look with a pair of comfortable chappals.”

Style icon: “Johnny Depp has always been my fashion icon. I’m fascinated by how well he carries off his hats. I think if you can wear hats, you can wear anything under that and it will look stylish.”

Most attached to: “My hats. I have a collection of about 200 hats. Every comedian has a Charlie Chaplin inside him. So I guess that’s where I get this fascination from.”

Fashion faux pas: “According to my stylist and staff, as far as I’m concerned, every single day is a fashion faux pas.”

Favourite red-carpet look: “If I had my way, I would wear a ganji and shorts. But recently, my GQ Awards look was well-received. So I would say that Troy D’Costa’s suits work best for me.”

Style advice: “I have an extremely important message for my fans — do not dress like me.”
