Want to grab eyeballs at the next party? Throw in a bit of quirk into your look with good ol’ bindis. Whether you’re wearing a dress, a jumpsuit or a top, bindis will add an edge to your look effortlessly. In fact, the traditional Indian forehead decoration has caught the fancy of fashion forward women across the globe.

Celebs such as Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, and Madonna have been making a style statement teaming bindis with Western wear. Style gurus too vouch for the bindi in its modern version. “Bindis look cool paired with dresses. You could add more funk into the boho chic or the gypsy look with a bindi on your forehead. They look nice when you wear them with harem pants or long flowy gypsy skirts,” says fashion designer Rina Dhaka. While smaller, barely there bindis would look nice with casual wear, you could experiment with bolder designs when dressing up for a party. “Try a big, bold bindi when wearing dresses or gowns in lace, chiffon or georgette.

But make sure that they go with your face shape,” says designer Kapil Arora. What’s in? From plain big sequins to little diamonds, coloured stones, dainty beads, kundan, Swaroski, antique gold and glitter, there are plenty of options for those who want to get creative with bindis. You can have fun mixing and matching various shapes and patterns, and work out your own innovative design.

You can experiment with bigger, bolder patterns. Those who have a round face should go for long, vertical bindis. An easy style could be placing four small diamonds together in one line. Avoid large round bindis, triangles, and teardrops. For square faces, star-shaped, V-shaped and butterfly bindis work best.
