Rohan Arora began his life as a shoe fairy three years ago when he gave the women of Kolkata their dream- custom made shoes, where you could chose everything from height of the heel to colour to silhouette.

Now, his ingenuity manifests itself in a concept he calls the detachable heel, where you can buy one pair of shoes, and get two free. Handmade, hand-painted and quirky to boot, the sole of the platforms can be unstrapped to become a flat chappal. “You can also wear the platform without the sole, but I wouldn’t advise it because that might be dangerous and cause you to trip,” advises the designer. Arora’s other claim to fame is that designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee uses his craft skills to create shoes for his own line. “The shoes come with detachable hand-painted clips that you can wear on the shoes or in your hair,” Arora mentions. He’s also used bits of chicken legs leather to create a collage of different textures.

Available at a budget-buckling Rs 16,000, the shoes can be found at stores, Zoya and Creo in Mumbai.
