Audrey Hepburn and Marylin Monroe showing off their tiny waist in fitted sheaths and corseted dresses have been an inspiration for fashion lovers across the world. The cinched waist trend has made a comeback with Bollywood divas experimenting with the style.
The trend is also a hit with fashion forward women across the world. According to Google, searches for ‘waist cinchers’ and related terms have more than doubled in the last year. Designer Rocky S says it’s because the trend flatters every body type. “It helps to add curves to a slim figure and it accentuates the existing curves in an hourglass figure. The fit and flare dresses best suits the Indian body type, defining the curves in all the right places. These dresses have slim tops in deeper necks which flows into a gentle flare, cinched at the higher waist to achieve its shape,” says Rocky.
Designer Nida Mahmood says that the trend is here to stay. “Cinched waists are not just restricted to dresses and gowns. You can even cinch your kurtas with belt,” says Mahmood. Stylist Vikram Seth suggests wearing a thick waist belt over a plain dress. “A robe style belted jumpsuit or a knotted dress is also a good option,” adds Seth.
