Imagination ruled the recently concluded Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, Fall/Winter 2012-2013, that ran from July 1 to 5. The shows brought together the world’s most illustrious couturiers and design houses. While designer Giorgio Armani played with midnight romance, Karl Lagerfeld paid a tribute to vintage styles with Chanel’s showcase. We bring you some highlights.

Midnight inspired
Giorgio Armani’s colour palette featured myriad shades of blue such as navy, indigo, periwinkle, along with purple, violet, pink and grey. Raw silk striped coats, floor-length beaded skirts, statement shoulders and embroidered veils were some of the highlights of his Armani Privé collection.

Supergirl Style
French fashion designer Stephane Rolland chose Chinese actor and singer Fan Bing-Bing (centre) as his show stopper. His show featured opulent, elegant gowns with flowing supergirl-style capes, and dramatic floating trains.

Vintagy spin
Chanel went the vintage way with elongated silhouettes, bejewelled crochet snoods, day suits of faux tweed, skirts that ended a hand above the knee and low-cut backs. “New Vintage is a proposition for something that could last, at least I hope so,” said Karl Lagerfeld.
