From beach to baroque

Islands, art, nature and cinema — the closing day of fashion week had it all.

This edition of WIFW closed with Ritu Kumar’s designs that were showcased in two parts. The pret collection comprised Spanish flavoured silhouettes, tribal prints and dramatic capes that were embraced by an AV by Delhi-based collective, BLOT. The second part included couture outfits with a taste of baroque, art deco, sheer, and dark floral romanticism.

Virtues by Viral, Ashish and Vikrant had dresses, kaftans and robes in popping yellow, pink and indigo hues. The show was a cocktail of 70’s glamour and the mysterious Morocco.

Joy Mitra delved in pre-independence India for ‘An Evening In The Townhall.’ Outfits with ethnic cuts and structures in ivory, red and gold were featured in the show.

Rajdeep Ranawat’s collection was colour and print heavy, with even sheer whites being offset by motifs borrowed from nature. Asymmetrical dresses, saris, and separates like shirts and bermudas were showcased.

Relaxed maxis, kaftans and dresses made up Pia Pauro’s collection that was easy on the eyes with its use of fun aztec prints and feather detailing on cottons and georgettes. A chic bohemian vibe took over the ramp.

Soltee by Sulakshana Monga showcased structured military chic outfits. The detailed embroidery, flowing fabric and patchwork added a feminine touch to the fierce dresses, saris.

Charu Parashar’s collection comprised relaxed boho fluidity with a dash of colour and hint of sequins.

Mahmood’s collection, Sapna Cinema. Bollywood dialogues were made the backdrop.

Called ZIP, Shivan and Narresh’s collection played with stripes and comprised colours like white, black and blue. The models sported bejeweled cat-eye glasses, wearing stylised drapes, saris with a twist and beachwear

the muse for the finale

Actor Esha Gupta looked radiant as she took over the ramp for the closing show of the fashion week. “It’s such a thrill! You would think that I would be used to walking the ramp, but, as a showstopper, it’s nerve-wracking.” When we quizzed her about initial reports claiming that Manisha Koirala would be a part of the show, Esha said, “I was booked two to three weeks back, and I’m clueless about the whole confusion that was there.”

While the shows seldom started on time during this edition of WIFW, Esha disclosed that as an individual, she is highly punctual. “I’m from an Army background and I’m very disciplined when it comes to time.”

Aur kitna

late!

Restlessness took over Pragati Maidan, as the delay in the shows continued. While the show scheduled for 5.45pm started at 7.15pm, the finale started an hour late at 10.30pm. Twitter was abuzz with annoyed posts. “Oh well d finale is already 1hr late. *aur kitna late karoge* #WIFW,” tweeted Kanika @Kanika_25.

Playing with textures, Raj Shroff’s collection comprised staid, monochromatic and sheer skirts, dresses and tops for a modern, fashion savvy woman.

Floral prints were shown in Kaleidology by Hemant and Nandita. Pants, dresses and peplum tops were showcased in the sports meets easy fashion collection.
