From Rihanna to Katrina: Celebs ace negligee-inspired slip dresses
Celebs have been spotted in negligee-inspired slip dresses, blurring the lines between sexy innerwear and cocktail dressing. We ask experts what they think about the idea and how city youngsters can ace the style.
If you thought stepping out in your nightwear was a fashion faux pas, think again! Celebs such as Barbadian singer Rihanna, American reality TV personality Kim Kardashian, and Bollywood star Katrina Kaif are strutting boldly in negligee-inspired satin dresses, reminiscent of slip dresses in the 1990s, and made popular by iconic model Kate Moss.
They’re set to make this trend both sartorially and socially acceptable. And the fash frat gives a thumbs up to the trend. Designer Narendra Kumar, says, “Slip dresses make for no-fuss eveningwear. It’s a sign of evolving fashion sensibility among our Bollywood divas. Earlier people preferred wearing body con but now they are switching to this because it’s elegant and chic. You can just wear it for a party and feel comfortable in it.”
Designer Gaurav Jai Gupta, however, says the glamorous slinky silhouette may not be for everyone. “It highlights every curve of your figure. To make the trend work, layer with a trench coat or a bomber jacket. It’s more of a club wear than a red carpet trend,” he adds.

Stylist Vikram Seth suggests accessorising the look well. “For that sexy look, wear your slip dress and accessories it with a choker. This will be your perfect evening wear look. However, slip dress can also be teamed with denim jackets and sneakers for that casual appeal. And for a street wear look, just team it with a bomber jacket and you are set to turn heads,” he says.
