The first edition of the Delhi Couture Week kickstarted Tuesday evening amid much glamour and grandeur. But Day 1, which saw shows from noted designers such as Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Manish Malhotra, and actresses Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan in attendance, was not without its share of glitches.

Both shows were delayed by half hour. The show areas were also reduced from two to one, leaving designers struggling with the last-minute change. “Everyone will have to be a little accommodating because now, we have only one show area. The designers are trying to keep up with it,” said designer JJ Vayala. Malhotra, whose show followed Sabyasachi’s, had to work around the same set in order to save time.

Other designers faced the same problem. “I’m having a stressful time because of these changes. I’ve spent a lot of money on my set. Before my show, it is Manav’s (Gangwani) show, and to dismantle his set will take an hour. From 20 hours, my set-up time has been reduced to two hours,” rued designer Pallavi Jaikishan, who is showcasing her collection tonight.

In an exclusive chat with HT City, Rani said, “I love Sabyasachi’s clothes, and I wear them both on professional and personal occasions.” Asked why she didn’t don them at the event, Rani, who was staying at The Grand hotel, Vasant Kunj, said, “Being there for his show is more important than just wearing his clothes and showing my loyalty. Nevertheless, the outfit that I’m wearing was picked by Sabya.”
