Inspired by Christian weddings, couples are making sure their #shaadisquad dresses identical. Traditionally, the bride and groom’s best friends, siblings or close family make it to this clan and are prescribed tasks throughout the celebrations. The trend has grown to include a uniform of sorts for these chosen ones.
Brand consultant Anushka Sharma, 25, who recently got married, says,“I thought gifting my friends identical bridesmaid outfits would be a cute gesture. My mom and I conceptualised the saris from scratch. Since it was a Goa wedding, we chose yellow and green for the mehendi function,” she says.
The bridesmaid, too, are loving wearing similar outfits. Varsha Sehgal, 26, a deputy sales manager at a luxury hotel, says, “My friend who got married recently gifted all her bridesmaids matching sets of salwar-kameez. I love the trend and will do it at my wedding too. The bride’s girl gang is as important as the groom now,” she says.
Not only the ladies, the grooms are also dressing their A-team in identical outfits. Photographer Deep Kanwar recently clicked a wedding party with groomsmen dressed in similar suits. “It’s a big trend this year. Bridesmaid and groomsmen wearing identical outfits make for fabulous pictures,” he says. Bride-to-be Drishti Mishra got a pre-wedding shoot with her bridesmaids. “It was a task to get them all together as they live across the country but it was all worth it. My fiance must know that his bride is coming with an army of best friends, and the shoot was a way of creating life-long memories,” she says.

Identical designerwear is also popular. “We are getting a lot of orders for matching bridesmaid outfits. Wearing similar designs is an interesting way for bridesmaids to show their affection for their friend,” says designer Samant Chauhan.
