A glamorous top chef and hugely successful model, Padma Lakshmi now turns jewellery designer to bring together her love for fashion and food. The actress recently launched her own line of jewellery called ‘Padma’ and says, “It’s inspired by things like seeds and pods, like cardamom, lentils, and cloves.”

The designs have also been inspired by ethnic jewels but remade in a fashion that would go with contemporary wear like jeans. Her fascination for heritage jewellery began as a child as over the years, Lakshmi collected several pieces from her grandmother and aunt.

About using food for fashion, she explains on her jewellery website, “In hunting for the most precious spices, I found the shapes of seeds and pods exquisite, a purity of proportion and form that had an inherent sensuality to them.” The collection, that was launched in May, consists of 40 pieces of 10k and 14k gold jewellery including rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. ‘Padma’ is currently only available at luxury store Bergdorf Goodman and this designer gold does not come cheap as prices range from $300-6,000.
