There’s a new movement in the fashion circuit. Some senior designers are pursuing a non-profit body by the designers, for the designers and of the designers to do away with factions and unite the fraternity. As per reliable sources, top designers like Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and Rohit Gandhi are spearheading this movement.

The plan reportedly is to redefine the FDCI concept, where the memorandum will reserve all the powers and privileges to designers. The board will only have designers (a clear hint that non-designers like Sunil Sethi or Sumeet Nair, if involved, will only be in executive roles). The new movement and its proponents are roping in a high-flying advisory committee which as per our source includes the likes of DLF’s Pia Singh, Priya Paul of Park Hotels, Rajeev Sethi, Aman Nath, industrialist Ness Wadia and some prominent socialites.

FDCI president Sethi said that he was unaware of this. “FDCI itself is a body that belongs to the designers and I am unaware of any such move. Designers are making an effort to be united and have a common fashion week.”
