Thanks to FDCI’s President Sunil Sethi, now we have a full fashion calendar. His constant efforts to bring in newer things under the ambit of FDCI saw a men’s fashion week for the first time in the country last year and now we have a couture week.

These are in addition to the seasonal fashion weeks for prêt. Later this year, I was told, there will be fashion awards as well. Sunil being the head honcho of FDCI will undoubtedly take it to further heights. Pearls Infrastructure Delhi Couture Week took off pretty well, considering this is a first time attempt.

While Sabyasachi chose to stay in the same frame of mind that he wandered into the fashion world with (he had the same looks that he’s known for, while I felt that there’s always scope to try newer things on the ramp), Manish had gone in for a more colourful option.

Both had offerings for men and women. I particularly liked Sabya’s backdrop —antique clocks and furniture — even though I didn’t quite get the videos on the giant screen. Silhouettes of both were easy and away from the body. The embroidery in heavier forms appeared in the quintessential Indian version of couture. An interesting start for a first-time event.
