Decor goes dotilicious this Spring. The polka fever has caught on, not only with celebs on the red carpet, but also with interior spaces. Décor industry is predicting that these bold dots are going to be a huge hit this season. So, if you are looking at adding a splash of colours to your living area, it is the time to play up with some peppy polkas. “Polka dot is a playful pattern, which infuses youthfulness and energy in home décor - whether it’s lamp shades, bed sheets, furniture, rugs, pillows or cushions - they immediately grab the attention,” says Sameer Hora of Idus, a city-based furniture store.

Play it up with dots
Polka dots
- a quintessential feature of the 60s - seem to have come a long way. Look around and you would see them being used in the most innovative ways today. These bold dots, which have the potential to enliven any boring corner, can actually be used in different ways, depending on the room type. Interior designer Sheena Khan says, “Use them in your kid’s rooms on blinds, on a focal wall, or on their duvet covers. Brighten up your family lounge by using them in monochromes or multicolours on your throw cushions.”

Sometimes the most boring furniture in the house can be pepped up by using these cheerful dots. "Transform a traditional chair into a trendy chair by spray painting it white and upholstering it in a bright polka dot fabric. Use it as an accent chair in your daughter’s room. Polka dot shower curtains can bring to life a dull bathroom too. Use dots in different sizes in the same room to heighten their effect," suggests Khan. However, remember that with polka dots, little is more, so don’t go overboard; use them sparingly in a room.

Kids room: “Kids rooms should be vibrant to match their high levels of energy. You can use polka-dot wallpapers or stickers in the children’s room. Medium and small sized polka dots look nice in their room,” says Pallavi Tibrewal, Portico.

Adults room: For an adult taste, neutrals and classics work best. A combination of black and whites, and lighter shades look classy. “The moment we go tonal as in wall papers, the dots becomes serious and the space becomes elegant,” says interior designer Punam Kalra.
