For a veteran designer and former president of Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) with over 25 years of experience in the fashion industry, the decision of choosing Kumar for the grand finale is being considered rather late by some. Though Kumar stays away from commenting on the matter directly, she suggests that a strong association with the organising brand is one of the conditions to be chosen as the finale designer. “We will be selling through Wills stores from this winter. I think you need to be working with them to be able to present a grand finale line … I am not sure … you should ask the FDCI,” says the 67-year-old. The fashion body, however, is yet to make an official announcement about the grand finale.

Talking about her finale collection, she says, “It will have to be grand … it’s the grand finale after all! I have a thematic presentation in mind for the show. But it’s too early to say anything right now. Of course, it will be a prêt line with very contemporary designs meant for young girls. It is a challenge and we are working on it.”
