So! How'd'ja like the show?" at least twenty five enthusiastic Kiwis asked me this. Standard answer: "Oh, I loved it! So proud, such fun!"

Proud because two chaps from back home, did, after all win the first prize. I wasn't lying about it being fun either. Because the show — WOW, or rather, the 22nd Montana World Of Wearable Art® Awards Show — besides being a "stunning exhibition of creativity, bringing to life artworks designed for the human form" (says WOW founder, Suzie Moncrieff), is simply, great fun. There's a lot to be said for the quality of production, and the energy in the 2-hour long performance seen by an audience of more than 43,000 over a ten-show season.

The highlights: 191 garments, with one in three garments chosen for the show coming from international designers across four continents, including a record 23 from India.

How's it different from a regular fashion show? For one regular fashion shows don't always have look-alikes of Barry Manilow and Engelbert Humperdink in bright costumes singing copa-copa cabana.

Given that anyone can enter WOW® there's hope for the rest of us dentists, chartered accountants, economists. Last year, a carpenter, David Walker, from the States, won the supreme award for a dress made entirely of wood. Obviously there's a difference between clothes you wear to a Diwali taash party and those you showcase under wearable art.
