The United States will host arch-rivals Mexico on September 11 in a football friendly during the first international window after the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The match-up at Nashville, Tennessee, pits two of the nations in the joint bid to bring the 2026 World Cup to North America.

Nashville, the American Country Music Capital, will be the home of a Major League Soccer expansion team in 2020 as is among 18 candidate cities to host matches in the World Cup bid. A 1-1 draw with Panama last year at Nashville drew 47,622 spectators.

Mexico owns a 34-18 with 15 drawn edge in the rivalry, although the Americans have a 13-7 with 6 drawn record in games against El Tricolor since the turn of the century.

While Mexico advanced to the World Cup in North American qualifying last year, the Americans were a shock failure, a flop that led to changes atop the US Soccer Federation and Dave Sarachan becoming the US coach on an interim basis through to the end of this year’s World Cup.
