The flats have been constructed by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) for the economically weaker section (EWS) at Sector 47, in New Gurgaon.

What is more surprising is that the district administration does not have the list of 'deserving' BPL cardholders to whom these flats are to be allotted.

"We don't know who the actual BPL cardholders are and whether all of them in the district are poor," said PC Meena, deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, who is monitoring the EWS flat allotments.

As per information from various sources in the offices of the deputy commissioner and the Huda, people with fake BPL cards have been found trying to usurp the EWS flats.

However, it has even come to light that many politicians and top government officials are trying to push their men for these flats.

When asked, Meena, said, "The allotment process has been initiated to some extent as many have been found possessing fake BPL cards. We have to find those who fall in the EWS category."

On the directions of the DC, more than 7,000 fake names were cancelled from the BPL category.

"We have constructed 528 EWS flats that are ready to be allotted, and construction of 516 flats are underway," said a senior Huda engineer.
