22-year-old kills self and one-year old daughter, family alleges dowry death

Her father told police in the complaint that both she and her daughter were killed by victim’s husband and in-laws after they could not give her Rs 50,000 dowry. Police have handed over the bodies to the kin after the post mortem was conducted.

The woman has been identified as Neeru, from Tada village in Alwar district in Rajasthan, who married Govind, a resident of Daulatbad Kuni village in Pataudi two-and-half-year ago. The couple had one- year-old daughter Sakshi.

Police was informed about the suicide after killing the daughter at 5 am by the deceased’s in-laws on Monday morning when her husband Govind, who works with a private company, was out on night-duty when the incident took place. When police reached the spot, the body of woman was found hanging with the ceiling fan in her house while her daughter was lying near the water bucket outside her home.

Based on the complaint, Pataudi police have lodged an FIR against Govind and his parents under sections 304-B (dowry death), 302 (murder), 498A (dowry harassment) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code (IPC)

“An FIR has been registered and investigations are on”, said assistant sub inspector Ashok Kumar, investigating officer.
